SCMSOA members have access to resources that meet diverse referee development needs. See brief descriptions of these options below. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Mentoring is an informal process that provides guidance and support to officials while they gain experience and confidence. First and second year members are the primary focus of SCMSOA’s mentor program, which seeks to improve referee performance and retention.
Observing is more formal than mentoring and is intended for experienced referees. Minnesota State High School League observers evaluate officials who apply for MSHSL’s state tournament. At SCMSOA’s request, observers also help other members reach their potential.
SCMSOA makes technology available to members who want to improve their performance.
Technology for self-evaluation:
- GPS watches
- Video recordings
Technology for enhanced cooperation:
- Beeper flags
- Wireless communication gear
